D. P. Bhosale College, Koregaon is an affiliated college to Shivaji University, Kolhapur (MS). The Department of English follows syllabi of the courses framed by Board of Studies in English of the said university.

English is a window to the world. As India is a country having unity in diversity, it is English that unites Indians across the country along with Hindi as a National Language. The Department of English runs bridge courses like Basic English Grammar, Soft Skills and Spoken English mainly to build confidence among the rural students who are either shy by nature or lag behind due to inferiority complex. These courses become helpful for such students fetching jobs in the corporate world.

Objectives of Short Term Courses:

• To introduce students with skills of spoken English and improve their speech competency
• To increase the confidence level of students in the use of English language for various purposes
• To train the students for formation of grammatically correct sentences
• To prepare students for competitive exams and face interviews successfully
• To inculcate soft skills among the students

The Department prepares Academic Calendar and Time-Table following the General Academic Calendar and General Time-Table of the college.  Curricular, Co-curricular and Extra-curricular Activities mentioned in the Academic Calendar are further divided among the faculty considering their specialization, individual talent, potential and interest. The major activities mentioned in the calendar are:

The English Language Laboratory is equipped with the software DLM (Digital Linguistic Mentor) and other ICT tools. Language Laboratory enriches experiential learning of the students in terms of communication skills such as listening, speaking, communication in social environment, etc. It also develops scientific approach of the learners in phonetics and phonology of English language. The laboratory consists of 21 Computers, 21 Headphones, LAN & WiFi Internet Connectivity.

The Department of English organizes Guest Lectures/Expert Talks of the eminent scholars from other colleges to exchange the resourceful faculty and exploit their expertise in the topics such as Creative Writing, Literary & Critical Theories, etc. Besides, expert talks from the in-house faculty are also conducted on the specific occasion to celebrate the events like English Day. The main objective behind this activity is to motivate students for learning and staff for interacting with the experienced teachers

The Department of English organizes Workshops on the topics of syllabus with the objective of providing different learning experience to the students from outside expert and resourceful faculty.

Best Practice – Field Visit

The tourists from different nationalities visit the tourist Places like Mahabaleshwar, Kas Plateau, Thoseghar Waterfall and Sajjangarh Fort. The Department undertakes field visit entitled Interaction with the Foreigners. This activity is conducted with the prime objective of students’ interaction with foreigners which ultimately result in capacity building in communication.

Objectives

• To build confidence among the students while interacting with the outsiders and enhance their communicative capability.
• To acquaint students with the pronunciations of the foreigners.
• To build confidence among the students
• To make the students aware of the socio-cultural and educational environment in foreign countries through arranging interactions with the foreigners.
• To introduce students with report writing.
• Extension Activity

The extension activity of the department is ‘Grammar Teaching at Nearby High Schools’ which is organized to inculcate presentation and teaching skills among the students.
